After watching Sherborne Town Ladies win 2-0 in Dorset County Cup against a very hard working Redlands Rebels, we decided to catch up with one of Sherborne Ladies new recruits Sarah Lewendon.

Sarah has been playing football for almost 15 years, all starting from having a kick around in the garden with her two brothers. Sarah has a wealth of experience as she has previously played for Dorchester Town Ladies and also being selected for the Dorset County Ladies team for the last few years. With Dorchester Town she played as a winger as she enjoys the running (I know crazy huh!), and turning provider by crossing the ball into the right areas at the right time, however, now with Sherborne Town Ladies she usually plays full back which gives her the freedom to go forward. As this is usually a defensive role, goals aren’t expected however stepping up the plate Sarah has managed to score in the FA Women’s Cup. Sarah said she wouldn’t call herself a goal scorer so was very pleased when she scored, especially now as she is playing for Sherborne as they have a squad of amazing players. Since her scoring, her confidence has been massively boosted as part of the team.

This season Sarah has chosen to dual sign to Dorchester Town Ladies and Sherborne Town Ladies. As Sarah loved playing at Dorchester for the last couple of years she didn’t want to leave, so dual signing seemed the best option. This means that she can push herself to play at a higher level with Sherborne but not leave the family at Dorchester behind. Even though her debut season for Sherborne has been incredible so far she still manages to find time to play a few games for Dorchester. Like Sherborne, Dorchester are also on an unbeaten run in the Dorset County League. Sarah and all of us at Green Line Journalism wish Dorchester Town Ladies all the best for the remaining season.
For some, debut seasons can be hit and miss but not for Sarah she has played six league games out of a total of seven. So a flying start. Sarah says this is down to the attitude of the players and coaches, everyone wants to win and has high expectations. Even though they are a competitive team she was welcomed into the squad quickly, felt like a real team player quickly. She is loving being a Zebra. (Sherborne Town are known as the Zebras).

Sherborne themselves are having a debut season in the South West Regional League Eastern Division as they were promoted from the Dorset League last season. Last season they were unbeaten and have continued this run into the new season so far. This positivity has rubbed off into the team and making everyone work hard and encouraging everyone to have same mentality about going forward. Sarah says everyone wants to continue their unbeaten run in the league and take promotion, they want to be the best they can be so the plan is to continue the run they are on, with their remaining games.
Sarah is also positive about the unbeaten run that Sherborne have had in the Dorset County Cup, reaching the semi finals for the second year running. Last year Sarah played as part of the Dorchester squad in the county cup so knows the competition well, and is looking forward to the semi-final and the showcase of talent that this competition brings.
We are hoping to catch Sarah and the rest of Sherborne Town Ladies in action against Gillingham Town Ladies on the 15th March 2020 at The Consol Stadium in Sherborne. Two O’clock kick off.
Good luck for rest of the season in the league and that the unbeaten start continues.
